3rd Animal Care and Use (CAUSE) 3rd Network Meeting
The RECOOP HST Animal Care and Use (CAUSE) Network closes the gaps between basic and
clinical sciences and translates complex biological discoveries via preclinical animal research
into medical advances. RECOOP HST CAUSE Network performed Program Status Evaluation
(PSE) and SWOT analysis, and as a next step the Network creates guidelines and standard
operating procedure (SOP) for the animal facilities. The CAUSE Network outlines
biomethodology training programs for young researchers and PhD students for use of research
animals.
1. Lesson learned from Program Status Evaluation (PSE) and SWOT analysis
2. Summary of the RECOOP HST CAUSE Network’s Program Status Evaluation
(PSE) and SWOT analysis
3. Suggestions for the Standard Operating Procedures and discussion:
A.) The Institutional Policies and Responsibilities: monitoring the veterinary care,
personnel qualifications and training, facilities, procedures, and monitoring.
B.) Animal Environment, Housing, and Management: the physical environment, animal
space, food, water, bedding sanitation, cleaning and disinfection, population
management.
C.) Veterinary Medical Care: animal procurement, transportation, surveillance,
diagnosis, treatment, surgical procedures, pain, distress, analgesia, anaesthesia and
euthanasia, storage and control of drug.
D.) The Physical Plant: the general arrangement and condition of animal care facilities.
No risk involved nevertheless meticulous analysis and consensus making has to be done
for best practice.
