description Dear friends and colleagues! It is a great pleasure for me to welcome sincerely all the participants of the Second International Conference “Tumor and Host: Novel Aspects of Old Problem”. We are honored that the Conference is hosted by R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the leading cancer research center in Ukraine. The time of our Conference coincides with the 25th anniversary of our Institute membership in the Organization of European Cancer Institutes and we appreciate much that the leading OECI representatives will take part in the Conference along with Ukrainian colleagues and our esteemed guests from several scientific centers of Europe and USA. The concept of tumor-host relationship is one of the fundamental issues bringing together and integrating the efforts of many scientists all over the world who attempt to develop the effective solutions for combating cancer. We are proud that the problem of tumor-host relationship has been the core issue of research since the foundation of our Institute. And our Conference also commemorates the 120th anniversary of the birth of Academician R.E. Kavetsky, the first Director of our Institute, who contributed much to this challenging issue. The Scientific Program of the Conference will cover the most important topics of cancer research related to the problem of tumor-host relationship: Systemic and tumor metabolism Molecular and cellular pathobiology Tumor microenvironment Inflammation and immune response in cancer Cancer prevention and therapy: new technologies and individualization I look forward to fruitful discussions on these key problems allowing us to formulate the strategies in further scientific research aimed at improving the diagnostics and treatment of cancer patients. Nowadays the international cooperation in cancer research, the participation in joint scientific projects and the exchange of information are more crucial than ever before. We have the privilege of holding our conference in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, the beautiful city with rich history, the city that is ancient but eternally young, the city of glorious monuments and historic attractions, the center of Ukrainian cultural and political life. I am delighted to welcome all our guests who are going to visit our city as well as this meeting and I wish successful and fruitful work to all the participants of the Conference.   Vasyl Chekhun Chairman of the Organizing Committee,Director of R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology,Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
