Zusammenfassung:From the middle of 1860’s, Russian scientists started more active studies of the flora and fauna of Black Sea, which having a reputation of sea, poor with forms of life. Initially the geography of their investigations was limited to North, mainly Crimean coast, as well as few points of Abkhzian coast. In the end of 1860’s, when the safe access to the East coast of Black Sea was opened, Russian scientists were interested in Novorossiysk bay, rich in various algae and sea invertebrates. The first investigators, who in 1868 included this bay in the route of their research expeditions, were Kharkov botanist G. F. Shperk and Moscow zoologist V. N. Ul’yanin. Materials, collected in Novorossiysk, occupied the important places in reports, published by Shperk and Ul’yanin, and also in the monograph of the latter, appeared after few years. These materials attracted the attention of other Russian scientists, who continues the studies of Novorossiysk bay fauna in 1870’s.
