Marine Ecological Journal| Zusammenfassung: | Abundance, biomass, age composition, lipid reserves in Calanus euxinus population from the deep shelf and slope zones of the north-western Black Sea were studied basing on the data collected during the cruise of the R/V “Professor Vodyanitsky” in October 2010. Reproductive activity of females was evaluated according to the gonad and oocyte maturity stages. Maximum number (3864 ind m-2), biomass (2.8 g m-2), female reproductive index (78 ± 18 %) and egg production rate (36.8 ± 17.7 egg· female-1 day-1) were found in the slope zone. Age composition and lipid reserves (20.2 ± 7.9 % of body volume in the fifth copepodite stages dominating in the population) were considered to be typical for C. euxinus from the Main Black Sea Current. |
