Summary:The features of the phase transition in dilute polymer solutions leading to the formation of a new phase, which is a swollen polymer mesh, have been considered. It is shown that, under certain conditions, only small clusters, microgels, of the new phase are formed and precipitate. A formula for the time dependence of the average microgel radius is derived. Using the method of dynamic light scattering, the time dependences of the cluster size in dilute aqueous solutions of hydroxypropyl cellulose with NaF, NaCl, NaBr, and NaI salt ions are obtained. The experimental results are compared with the derived formula.
